Representative Steve Cohen (D, TN-9) recently received his third consecutive 100% rating on the Animal Welfare Institute’s legislative scorecard, the Compassion Index.
“It is a privilege and an honor to be recognized by the Animal Welfare Institute for my work on behalf of animal rights. The treatment of animals is characterized as a direct reflection on how we as people treat ourselves and each other. I have long advocated for humane treatment of all animals and remain committed to fighting for animals in need,” said Congressman Cohen, a lifelong supporter of animal rights.
The Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1951 with the goal of reducing pain and fear inflicted on animals by humans. Its legislative division, the Society for Animal Protective Legislation (SAPL), pushes for the passage of laws that reflect this purpose.
