Memphis Mayor AC Wharton announced his endorsement of Congressman Steve Cohen at a press conference at Cohen for Congress Headquarters earlier today as Congressman Cohen announced his ballot.
“All the way from getting us included in Strong Cities, Strong Communities- He has a personal relationship with Mayor Bloomberg- helping us be selected for that, infant mortality programs, education programs, TIGER grants- You name it. He has flat out delivered,” Mayor Wharton said.
“Therefore it gives me no pause at all to stand here with my fellow Democrats and say that I enthusiastically support the re-election of the Honorable Steve Cohen to the United States Congress.”
Cohen thanked Mayor Wharton, praising him as “a champion of Democrats, a champion of human beings, and a man who has put the city of Memphis’s ship on the right sail and kept it afloat.”
Cohen was also endorsed by City Councilmen Lee Harris and Janis Fullilove, School Board members Dr. Jeff Warren, Dr. Kenneth Whalum, Jr., and Dr. Freda Williams, State Representative Mike Kernell, State Senator Beverly Marrero, Shelby County Assessor Cheyenne Johnson, and Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk Pro Tempore Ed Stanton, Jr.
Stanton, Johnson, Kernell, Marrero, Whalum, Williams, and State Representative Johnnie Turner have been endorsed by Congressman Cohen and appear on his ballot.
