The Commercial Appeal Endorses Steve Cohen For Congress

The Commercial Appeal has made its endorsement in the 9th District Congressional Race:

...In 2006 on this page, the editorial board said that experience, and how that experience could be used to help the 9th District, should be the deciding factors in the race. With that in mind, we endorsed longtime state senator STEVE COHEN in both the primary and the general election to replace Ford. This year, we think voters should send Cohen back to Washington for a second term...

...During his first term in Congress, Cohen, a 24-year veteran of the state Senate, used the skills he honed as a state legislator to build relationships within and across party lines that have helped him make an impact on the national and local stage. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi calls Cohen, a 59-year-old native Memphian, the "conscience of the freshman class," citing his votes on issues such as increasing the minimum wage and extending unemployment benefits.

He has been instrumental in getting federal grants for Memphis International Airport, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the University of Tennessee's biocontainment lab and other local colleges and city schools.

With a first term under his belt, Cohen stands to be even more effective in a U.S. House with a Democratic majority that is expected to grow after the November elections...
