Congressman Steve Cohen’s Voting Record Rated 100% by Americans for Democratic Action
Americans for Democratic Action have issued their Scorecard rating the top members of the House of Representatives and Senate. Congressman Steve Cohen’s voting record gave him a 100% score.
The scorecard was based on key votes on issues such as the Paycheck Equality Bill, the Troubled Assets Relief Program, and the Health Care Reform Bill.
Founded in 1947, Americans for Democratic Action were the first group to rate members of the United States Congress on their voting records.
Congressman Steve Cohen Endorsed for Re-Election by AFL-CIO, West Tennessee Building and Construction Trades Association

Congressman Steve Cohen held a press conference on February 17th at the IBEW Union Hall to accept endorsements from the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council, Memphis AFL-CIO Labor Council, the Memphis and West Tennessee Building and Construction Trades Association, and the support of many leaders of the labor movement.
Memphis AFL-CIO Labor Council Political Director Howard Richardson called Cohen “a champion of working people. Not just labor— Working people who work for an hourly wage.”
“He’s a champion for human rights,” Richardson continued. “He’s a champion for women’s rights. He’s a champion for minimum wage. He’s a champion for all of the things that raise the standard of living for working people.”
“He’s never raised the issue of race except to promote harmony among the races. And I am proud to say on behalf of the Memphis Labor Council of AFL-CIO that we endorse him with the greatest enthusiasm. And we’re going to make sure he’s re-elected,” Richardson concluded to a round of applause.
Congressman Steve Cohen Rated 100% by The League of Conservation Voters
Congressman Steve Cohen’s voting record in 2009 has been rated 100% by The League of Conservation Voters. Cohen was one of only two Tennessee congressmen to receive the 100% rating.
The scores were based upon members’ votes on issues relating to clean energy, climate change, and public lands protection.
This is Cohen’s third consecutive “A” from the League of Conservation Voters.

Congressman Steve Cohen Receives “A” on Third Consecutive NAACP Report Card
For the third year in a row, Congressman Steve Cohen’s voting record in the House of Representatives was rated an “A” by the NAACP. Cohen’s 100% score was the highest awarded to a Tennessee Congressman.
All members of Congress were rated based upon their votes on such issues as paycheck equity, anti-wage discrimination, expanding healthcare coverage for children, and strengthening federal hate crime laws.

Congressman Cohen Receives Second Consecutive “A” Grade on NAACP Legislative Report Card
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has released its annual Legislative Report Card. For the second year in a row, Congressman Steve Cohen led the Tennessee Congressional Delegation with an “A”.
“As a Lifetime Member of the NAACP, I have always been supportive of their legislative agenda both in the U.S. House of Representatives and during my tenure in the Tennessee State Senate,” Congressman Cohen said. “I am grateful for this recognition and I will continue to work with NAACP leaders like Julian Bond and Maxine Smith to effect change that benefits the people of the 9th District.”
The criteria upon which Cohen and the other members of Congress were graded included increasing the minimum wage, making college more affordable, crimes prevention, the Head Start reauthorization, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), reducing recidivism through ex-offender reentry programs, the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program, the extension of unemployment benefits, the Credit Card Holders’ Bill of Rights, and the Paycheck Fairness Act— All of which Cohen voted for.

Alliance for Retired Americans Endorses Congressman Steve Cohen for Re-Election
The Alliance for Retired Americans has endorsed Congressman Steve Cohen for re-election to Tennessee’s 9th District Congressional Seat.
“Your positions demonstrate a strong commitment to improve the quality of life for older Americans,” says the endorsement letter signed by ARA President George J. Kourpias. “Your leadership on issues such as fighting Social Security privatization and strengthening the Social Security and Medicare systems exhibits that commitment.”
Congressman Cohen previously received a 100% rating on the Alliance for Retired Americans Scorecard.
Esquire Endorses Steve Cohen for Congress
The November 2008 issue of Esquire makes an endorsement in all 482 races across the nation. In Tennessee’s 9th District Congressional race, they endorsed Congressman Steve Cohen for re-election.

The Commercial Appeal Endorses Steve Cohen for Congress
The Commercial Appeal has issued its endorsements for the general election season, and it has once again endorses Congressman Steve Cohen.

U.S. HOUSE DISTRICT 9: Incumbent Rep. STEVE COHEN won the August Democratic primary in impressive fashion, getting nearly 80 percent of the vote in dispensing with challengers Nikki Tinker and Joe Towns.

People for the American Way has endorsed Congressman Steve Cohen for re-election to Tennessee’s 9th District Congressional Seat.
Television producer Norman Lear founded the group in 1981 as a means of countering the influence of social conservatism, and has grown to included rapid response to events and widespread volunteer mobilization.
