Fiscal Discipline
One of the first votes of the current House of Representatives as part of the “100 Hour Plan” was the reinstatement of Pay As You Go Spending. It’s a fiscal discipline that seems pretty bold to some Beltway insiders, but it’s what you do every day of your life.
The concept is very simple. If we want to spend money, we must (A) find enough waste in the government budget to make it “revenue neutral”, or (B) tax enough to cover it. Obviously, I prefer the latter; it allows the people of the 9th Congressional District to keep more of their hard-earned money.
Over the course of my twenty-four years in the Tennessee State Senate and my first term in the U.S. House of Representatives, I have always fought for responsible spending practices. And I will continue to do so in the future.
