Energy Independence
We have a problem. The largest fossil fuel reserves in the world lie under the ground in an unstable corner of the world, which keeps the price of a barrel of oil in constant flux.
And the skyrocketing price of gas creates a ripple effect, increasing the price of every single item we buy.
Now, we can continue the path that we're on and continue watching the prices go higher at the gas pump. But working families have enough to deal with without the price of gasoline becoming an even more significant portion of the family budget.
Or, we can begin the transition to renewable energy sources.
I cosponsored and voted for the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act of 2008. This bill not only moves us along the path to energy independence, but it actually creates new jobs in the process. It also brings to an end the taxpyer subsidies of the oil industry, which seems to be doing quite well without asking you to bail them out any further.
I will not only support, but help lead all efforts to create a truly energy independent United States.
