Congressman Cohen Receives Endorsement From Maxine Smith

Former Memphis City School Board member, former NAACP National Executive Secretary, and Civil Rights legend Maxine Smith announced her support of Congressman Steve Cohen in his re-election bid for the 9th Congressional District seat in the House of Representatives.

Mrs. Smith introduced Cohen as a panelist at the Hope & Healing Forum along with several local and national Civil Rights leaders.  She praised his twenty-four years of service as a Tennessee State Senator and as a United States Congressman, and announced that she supports Obama for President and Cohen for Congress and then she's "finished with politics".

"Maxine Smith is a giant not only in our community, but in our nation," Congressman Cohen said.  "She is an institution unto herself, and I'm proud to have her and her husband, my former Shelby County Commission colleague Dr. Vasco Smith in my corner."
